About The SPE
The Society of Professional Engineers was founded on 27th October 1969 by a number of Corporate Members of the Society of Engineers, which was the third oldest Engineering Body in the United Kingdom, having been established in 1854.
The Society maintains a register of engineers who have proved their competence and can be accurately described as Professional Engineers and who on registration can use the designation “PEng”.
During the 40+ years since its foundation, the Society has continued to support the principles which guided the founders, principally professionalism, excellence and the superior quality of the work of professional engineers for the advantage of their clients and the world in general.
More recently, the Society has enlarged these principles by the launching of its charity called "Exciting Engineering" with the aim of giving encouragement to young people at school to study the subjects essential for entry into all the varied branches of engineering.
